Accelerating the clean energy transition — financing energy efficiency at the local level

Energy Efficiency first is the principle that inspires the energy policy that will lead Europe for many years to come. At the local level, many European cities have already shown a pro-active attitude towards clean energy solutions, joining local and EU wide initiatives such as the Covenant of Mayors. However, bridging local ambitions with financing models to implement them is not always easy. With the recently published European Commission’s communication on Clean Energy for All Europeans, the EU further tackles this crucial issue and provides new opportunities to finance Energy Efficiency projects.

This session presents a local actor view on the three pillars of the Smart Finance for Smart Buildings initiative recently launched by the European Commission as part of the Clean Energy package. This event includes a keynote speech followed by an interactive session where EU policy makers and representatives of financial institutions are invited to discuss with local stakeholders key recommendations with the goal of strengthening the role of the local level in accelerating the clean energy transition.

The event is moderated by Andy Deacon, Climate Alliance policy coordinator and it is aimed at local authorities, finance stakeholders and EU as well as national policy makers.
