Digitalisation in energy

Digitalisation of the energy system is required to manage the energy transition. Only a smart energy system can activate the flexibility on the demand side that is needed to integrate large shares of renewables efficiently.

Digital technologies play an important role in the energy sector in many respects. This holds particularly true for smart grids and smart metering systems, smart home appliances, smart charging solutions for electric vehicles and smart cities. In all these areas, digital technologies create various opportunities. They can help the consumer participate actively in the energy market and use energy more efficiently.

But what is the future vision of the energy sector? Does the current or currently-under-negotiation legislative framework provide grounds for this vision? What is the state of the European research? Where do we need more R&D?

This event focuses on the legislative and policy perspective of digitalisation in energy, as well as to discuss what research is needed to reach future visions. It includes representatives from Member States, national regulatory authorities and stakeholders. It allows exchange of experiences and views on digitalisation, visionary trends and enabling innovative solutions to lower energy costs and enhance security of supply while deploying innovative digital energy services.
