Jerzy Buzek is a Polish politician, former Prime Minister of Poland and former President of the European Parliament. He has been an MEP since 2004 and currently chairs the EP's Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE). He is an initiator of the European Energy Community, a former rapporteur for 7th Framework Program, the SET Plan and the EU Internal Energy Market, and current rapporteur on the Security of Gas Supply Regulation as well as for an own-initiative report on Accelerating Clean Energy Innovation.

Bendt Bendtsen is a Member of the European Parliament for the Conservative People’s Party of Denmark and member of the EPP Group. He works with many aspects of European energy policy. Currently, as the European Parliament’s negotiator for the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, he works to ensure that building stock contributes to a Europe based on sustainable energy.

European Green Capital and Green Leaf Awards: finalists announced

Five cities have been shortlisted for the 2019 European Green Capital Award, three for the 2018 Green Leaf Award. Both awards recognise cities’ commitment to environmental, social and economic sustainability.

In the running for the title of European Green Capital 2019 are Ghent (Belgium), Lahti (Finland), Lisbon (Portugal), Oslo (Norway) and Tallinn (Estonia). The three nominees for the Green Leaf Award 2018 are Leuven (Belgium), Ludwigsburg (Germany) and Växjö (Sweden).
