The achievement of the European Union's long-term objectives for a climate neutral economy requires systemic transformations at regional and local level. The EU's cohesion policy is helping regions and Member States to modernise their economies and to realize the clean energy transition. For the post-2020 period, the Commission wishes to further improve the effectiveness of cohesion policy investment in delivering the energy and climate goals. This will require a significant effort by the public and private sectors, as well as consumers and citizens. For this reason, the Commission would like to reflect on how cohesion policy can better support sustainability transitions in regions and cities. This event will be the opportunity for a debate with interested regional and local authorities and other stakeholders.
