Climate Talks: Carbon Management – Nature-based Solutions
Join us for a bite-sized lunchtime online conversation on Climate Talks - Carbon Management, which explores scalable solutions that are able to contribute to removing GHG emissions and adapting to climate change.
The topic of the webinar is Nature-based Solutions. Management of both emissions and removals is absolutely necessary to ensure an economically affordable transition to carbon neutrality by 2050. Carbon management is about the careful and economically optimal management of the energy transition, in the same way as financial management has to take account of both credits and debits in financial accounts. In the past, much attention has been given to emission reductions, in the future emission removals need to assume much greater prominence. In the context of the implementation of European Green Deal and ongoing discussions on the European Climate Law, the webinar will look into the IPCC Special Report 15, explore nature-based solutions covering forestry, agriculture, as well as the relevant EU regulatory framework.
The panelists include Artur Runge-Metzger, Director of DG CLIMA, a Member of the European Parliament (tbc) and a Mika Aho, Director of Public Affairs of ST1, Finnish energy company implementing project of sustainable carbon sequestrating through afforestation.
The panel is moderated by Peter Vis, a Senior Advisor at Rud Pedersen in Brussels. As a former-Commission official, Peter has helped shape the EU’s climate policy over the course of the last twenty-five years. His roles included being the Head of Cabinet of the first Climate Action Commissioner, Connie Hedegaard, was Cabinet member for the Energy Commissioner Andris Piebalgs, and had a variety of other roles relating to climate-related policy.
The webinar is organized by Rud Pedersen Public Affairs and supported by the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers (IOGP).
