Since 2004, Gregor Goetzl is coordinating the geothermal research activities at the Geological Survey of Austria. In more than 20 national- as well as international research projects, he investigated resources and limitations of shallow and deep geothermal energy use in Austria and abroad. Currently, Gregor Goetzl is coordinating the international research projects GeoPLASMA-CE (www.geoplasma-ce.eu) and MUSE (https://geoera.eu/projects/muse/). Both projects deal with assessing and managing shallow geothermal resources for heating, cooling and seasonal heat storage in Europe. His actual research focus covers the integration of geothermal energy use in energy supply and climate change mitigation policies for urban areas. Gregor Goetzl is also one of the co-funders of the recently initialized Austrian Geothermal Association.
