Guidelines for Energy Talks

You will be able to deliver a 10-minute speech on innovative initiatives, followed by a lively Q&A session with the audience. Interactivity and passion are key!

The call for contributions to give an Energy Talk at the EU Sustainable Energy Week 2020 is open to:

  • representatives of EU institutions, including inter-institutional bodies;
  • stakeholders which fulfil the following criteria:
    • have a mandate to work as multipliers using a widespread network of contacts across Europe;
    • have a mandate to contribute to the development and implementation of sustainable energy policy in Europe.

Examples of eligible types of organisations include:

  • international organisations;
  • university associations;
  • networks of national, regional/local authorities, agencies, or other public bodies;
  • industry or professional associations;
  • NGOs working in the field of sustainable development;
  • consumer associations/citizens' groups.

Professional event organisers or businesses aiming to promote specific products or services are not eligible.

The application form gives you the opportunity to apply for only one contribution at a time.

Successful applicants will deliver a dynamic presentation that will stimulate interaction and discussion with the audience.

Each Energy Talk will last up to 20 minutes:

  • Presentation of your project/idea (10 min)
  • Questions and answers (10 min)

To increase the visibility of your project, Energy Talks will take place at the Residence Palace in a ‘silent disco’ format. Each presenter will use a special headset and a microphone to give a presentation to an audience of 40 EUSEW participants. The presenter’s microphone will be linked to the headsets used by the audience. All presentations will be displayed on a standing TV screen.

The proposals will be evaluated by a selection panel, comprising European Commission officials. The panel will take into account the information provided in the application form, with specific attention given to the following:

  • Concept
  • Content
  • Novelty, news, innovation
  • Promotion

Why do you want to give an Energy Talk? What is the expected outcome? What interactive elements are planned to stimulate discussion and debate with the participants?

What is the title of the proposed contribution? What are the key elements? How does it fit with the EU’s energy objectives? How does your Energy Talk contribute to the 2030 and 2050 targets and beyond?

Novelty, news, innovation

Will the proposed contribution bring something new to the EU Sustainable Energy Week activities? Does the proposal include any innovative features?

What actions will you take before the EUSEW Policy Conference to promote your Energy Talk?

The deadline for applications is at 23.59 CET on 16 March 2020. Please note that late submissions will not be accepted. You will be informed of the results in April 2020.

The Energy Talks will take place on 23, 24 and 25 June 2020.

The successful applicants will have at their disposal a laptop with Wi-Fi connection, a projection screen, a microphone and a headset.

At the Energy Talks, participants will discover new projects, points of view, positions and ideas, and have the opportunity to engage in discussions with the presenter. If selected, you are encouraged to promote your Energy Talk, carefully curate its content and provide a description of the speaker to be featured on the website.
