LIFE solutions for climate and the Building Sector

Buildings are responsible for approximately 40% of energy consumption and 36% of CO2 emissions in the EU and the EU set an end goal of a decarbonized building stock by 2050. This talk will draw on the outcome of the LIFE Platform Meeting on Climate Action and the Building Sector, held in Brussels a couple of days earlier, as well as on the finding of the LIFE BE REEL! Integrated Project. The presentation will give an insight into innovative solutions tested by the LIFE projects and other best practice projects presented in the LIFE Platform Meeting. Further topics discussed are climate challenges in mitigation and adaptation in the building sector with an emphasis on the role of the EPBD and other sustainable building standards. A focus is laid on technologies and funding on achieving climate-neutral buildings. Public or semi-public funding instruments, as well as a private one, play a crucial role in the strategies contributing to the achievement of the building performance targets. The host of the LIFE Platform Meeting, the BE REEL!-project demonstrates a solution for an integrated governmental climate strategy for deep renovation.
