Kostas Komninos (Dipl. Mechanical Engineer; MSc in Wind Energy) has 10 years of experience in the fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency and local energy planning. He develops policy and project proposals for islands’ smart and sustainable development underpinned by the uptake of innovative technologies, alternative business models and capacity building for island stakeholders. Since 2015 he heads “DAFNI Network of Sustainable Greek Islands”, an association of 48 local and regional authorities and leads the Energy and Climate Change Department at the "Aegean Energy and Environment Agency”. At EU level he coordinates the Smart Islands Initiative with more than 200 islands supporters and was recently elected Vice-President for Smart and Sustainable Islands in FEDARENE. Between 2015 and 2018 he served as a non-executive member of the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Electricity Distribution Network Operator S.A. (HEDNO), with a portfolio to promote innovative projects in the Greek islands where HEDNO is the sole system operator.
