Richard Hughes is an electrical and electronic engineer who currently works for the UK trade association responsible for domestic appliances where he is responsible for a wide range of technical topics. Previously, he worked in the R&D departments of ICT companies specialising in product safety. This has led him to being involved with international standardization since the mid-1980s.
Most recently he was Chair of CEN-CENELEC JTC10 since its creation in 2016 until May 2019. This committee was created in order to prepare standards to support the Ecodesign Framework Directive and, because this Directive covers both electrotechnical and non-electrotechnical products, it was considered essential that the standards be published as joint CEN-CENELEC publications.
