Tadhg O’Briain is a Deputy Head of Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate General for Energy where he works on retail energy markets and the Just Transition. From 2016-2020, Tadhg is a member of the European Commission Task Force on Brexit under Michel Barnier, in charge of the energy, climate and level playing field aspects of the negotiations. Previously he worked in the European Commission’s Secretariat General with a coordinating role on energy and climate policy.
Before joining the Commission, Tadhg worked on economic strategy at the Northern Ireland Department of Finance and on the establishment of the All-Ireland electricity market. Tadhg has also worked in financial services, including as assistant to the Deutsche Bank chief economist Professor Norbert Walter.
